Penile Fungal Infection

Penile Fungal Infection

A penile fungal infection occurs when yeast (Candida Albicans) overgrows on the head of the penis. Fungus thrives in warm, moist environments and the condition is common in uncircumcised men, diabetics, and those with weakened immunity. Poor hygiene, antibiotics, and sexual contact can trigger infection.

Symptoms of penile fungal infection include redness, itching, burning, and white patches on the penis head. You may also experience swelling and discomfort during urination or sex. A thick, white discharge with a musty odour may also be present. If untreated, it can cause recurrent infections, scarring, and complications like tight foreskin. Early treatment and proper hygiene prevents it from spreading.

Penile Fungal Rash Treatments

Topical Antifungal Creams

Topical antifungal creams directly combat Candida overgrowth. They can relieve redness, itching, and discomfort within days. With regular application for 1–2 weeks, they can completely eradicate the fungal infection.

Anti-Fungal Tablets

Anti-fungal tablets treat persistent or severe fungal infections. They are useful when topical creams fail, in recurrent infections, or for men with weakened immunity or diabetes. Medical advice must be followed when taking these medications.

Steroidal Cream Treatment

Steroid creams reduce inflammation and swelling but do not kill fungi. They are sometimes used alongside antifungals for severe irritation. Steroid creams should be applied with caution under medical guidance.
